What is blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty, or cosmetic eyelid surgery, is a cosmetic procedure designed to rejuvenate the eyes by addressing the upper or lower eyelids.


The purpose of this procedure is toremove excess eyelid skin, remove the fat pads visible through the skin, and sometimes lift the lower eyelid.

What does the blepharoplasty procedure involve?

The incisions are made in the upper eyelid crease and along the lower lash line.

For the lower eyelid, it is sometimes possible to remove fat pockets through an invisible conjunctival incision.

Very fine sutures are used to close the incisions.

Procedure duration: 30–45 minutes (2 upper or lower eyelids) to 1 hour and 30 minutes (4 eyelids)

Before the procedure

  • Medical appointments: 2 cosmetic surgery consultations. One appointment with the ophthalmologist and one consultation with the anesthesiologist.
  • Signing of the estimate and informed consent form, and routine taking of medical photographs.

  • Cooling-off period: 15 days between the initial consultation and the blepharoplasty.

  • Recommendations: Stop smoking one month in advance; stop taking aspirin or anti-inflammatory medications 10 days before blepharoplasty.
