What is a mole removal procedure?

Mole removal is a cosmetic and dermatological procedure performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia to removeskin lesions, more commonly known asmoles.

This cosmetic procedure is performed to treat the following benign lesions:

Moles, or melanocytic nevi, appear in humans during the first twenty to thirty years of life and may change over time.

Dr. Nicolas Zwillinger uses fine sutures to minimize the appearance of scars. He removes most moles in his office.

How is a mole removal procedure performed?

This procedure is a quick surgical procedure performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia. Depending onthe type of mole, they can be removed in the doctor’s office or at a clinic.

Removing a moletakes about 20 minutes and does not require hospitalization.

This procedure begins with the injection of lidocaine (marketed in many countries under the name Xylocaine) using a small syringe. This local anesthetic ensures that the procedure is painless. Next, an incision is made around the mole with a scalpel to facilitate removal of the lesion. Finally, the skin is closed with sutures.

The scar from a mole removal may fade after 6 to 12 months, but its visibility can vary from person to person.
