Cosmetic Rhinoplasty Surgery

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to correct imperfections in the external appearance of the nose.

This procedureaddresses cosmetic concerns and alters the size or shape of the nose—such as a bump, a deviated septum, a nose that appears too long, or a drooping tip.

Medical rhinoplasty – injections to reshape the nose

Medical rhinoplasty involves the injection offillers—specificallyhyaluronic acid—to alter the shape of the nose, particularly the tip.

The procedure is painless and produces immediate results that last for six months. These injections are ideal for patients who do not wish to undergo surgery.

Cosmetic Rhinoplasty Surgery

Functional rhinoplastyis a type of reconstructive surgery. It is performed on patients who have had a broken nose, a nose that has been amputated, or a nose with a deviated septum.

The appearance of your nose, which may have been damaged by illness, a congenital deformity, or an accident, can be reshaped or corrected through functional rhinoplasty.

How is rhinoplasty performed?

  • Rhinoplasty surgery takes between 1 and 2 hours, depending on its technical complexity, and is performed under general anesthesia. However, for minor rhinoplasty procedures or those involving only the nostrils, it is possible to use local anesthesia alone.
  • Rhinoplasty involves incisions in the nose or on the columella, depending on whether the closed or open technique is used.
  • In a closed procedure, the surgeon works through internal incisions made inside the nose. These incisions are hidden, usually within the nostrils, and less commonly under the upper lip. No scars are visible on the outside.
  • In open rhinoplasty, the surgeon operates through a small incision in the columella (the area between the two nostrils, below the nose). Open rhinoplasty is becoming increasingly common.
  • For alar reduction, the incisions are made at the base of the nostrils, in the crease between the nostrils and the upper lip.
  • Corrective procedures should ideally be minor (such as correcting a small bump, an irregularity in the cartilage, or the shape of the nostrils).
  • With closed rhinoplasty, the sutures are placed inside the nose, so the stitches dissolve in about a month.
  • Sometimes sutures are placed at the base of the nostrils (in cases of nostril reduction) or on the columella (in open rhinoplasty). In such cases, the sutures should be removed promptly within 7 days.
  • External immobilization using a nasal splint (usually made of resin for optimal comfort) for one week.
